Player Spotlight: Max Schneider
Another addition to the CITY2 roster is Midfielder, Max Schneider. Max comes to St Louis after spending a successful college career at Marshall University in West Virginia. His time there included Marshall's 2020 NCAA Tournament Championship (which was played in 2021 due to Covid), in which Schneider played a significant role in the midfield.
Max's time at Marshall University saw him notch 6 goals with 7 assists. He was selected for the Conference USA All-Freshman Team and twice to the All-Conference Second Team. He was also named once as the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week just last season.
Before the 21 year old Midfielder from Koln, Germany came to Marshall University, he played 2 seasons in the Bayer Leverkusen Academy, for both the U17 and U19 teams. Interestingly, Max's father, Hansjorg, played professionally for Fortuna Koln in 2. Bundesliga. Max seems to come from good stock.
When looking at CITY2's roster, the choice of midfielders is abundant. For Max to see plenty of playing time, based on his role at Marshall, and the Lutz/Carnell style, he likely would be best suited as a holding midfielder who could press high when needed. As a Defensive Midfielder, Schneider's 6 goals and 7 assists at Marshall help make that case, including this goal from a set piece vs Clemson in the NCAA Tournament last year. Max is definitely one to keep an eye on this season.
