CITY2 Signs Defender Eric Kinzner
With less than two weeks until the season opener, CITY2 has signed former RGV Toros defender Eric Kinzner. Kinzner, 20, has played in four professional seasons. The deal is for one year with an option for 2025.
It is unclear if the move is related to a potential first team contract for Michael Wentzel. However it is worth noting CITY2's lack of defensive depth. Prior to his signing, CITY2 only had five defenders on their initial roster. Adding Kinzner provides a cushion if Wentzel is needed at the first team level. Something that they didn't have before this signing.
Prior to joining CITY2, Eric Kinzner has played for the Tacoma Defiance, FC Tucson and RGV Toros. Appearing in 52 games, earning 39 starts and 3,394 minutes played. On top of playing professionally in USL Championship and USL League One, Kinzner has six US U16 National Team caps, while also spending time in U15 and U17 camp.
Barring a surprise move the roster is now set. Though there will likely be first teamers moving down for playing time. The revamped CITY2 team will kick off their 2024 campaign at CITYPARK against Rapids 2 on March 17th.
